General Notes: Husband -

Thomas most likely came to the New World sometime in the 1690's. Family legend tells that Thomas came with two of his brothers, Abraham and Eli. Thomas's brothers were unhappy with the living conditions in New England and returned to England. Thomas settled in Wells, where he prospered.

In 1702 Thomas witnessed a deed for Mr. Thompson in Berwick. In 1703, he was given a land grant in Berwick, which he then sold in 1710. In July of 1710, Thomas, along with the other children and grandchildren of Meribah Littlefield, was ordered to help pay for their fair share of her living expenses. He received another land grant in Wells in March of 1713/14. Sometime in the late 1720's-early 1730's Thomas removed to Sanford, were he was one of the original settlers. In May of 1734 his name appears on a list of proprietors.

"Some time before 1709, three brothers, Thomas, Eli, and Abraham came to this country from England. Eli and Abraham, not pleased with conditions here, soon returned and Thomas settled in Wells, Maine. He had a son born during an Indian war in a garrison house where fourteen families were stationed one winter. His name was Thomas Jr. and so small that a feather was used in giving him nourishment - and at the age of six weeks could easily be fit in a quart dish. He married Abigail Gray for his first wife and had ten children - again married Adah Spear and had nine children. He was the father of nineteen children and died at the age of 99 years." Evelyne "Evie" Penney (1858-1945) ggggrandaughter of Thomas. 1
