General Notes: Husband -
Captain John Littlefield lived an active and industrious life. He had a grant of land in 1643 at the same time as his father. He apparently purchased part of his father's property as we find in Edmund's will, "I give unto my son John Littlefield Ten pounds, to be paid out of the forty pounds which he is to pay for his purchase at Ogunquit". [Spelling corrected] This bequest reflects a ten pound reduction of the debt John would owe to his father's estate. He was also embroiled in a civil suit over his interest in the lands of the Gorges family in the Moody section of Wells.
Littlefield Family Newsletter by Dorothy Keyes & Charles Seaman, Vol . 1pg 6 & 7:
Capt. John Littlefield, as he was known, lived a very active and industrious life. He had a grant of land when his father died, in 1643. He apparently purchased part of his father's property as in Edmund's will ( 1661) we find: "I give vnto my sun John Littlefejld Tenn pounds, to be payd out of ye fourty poiunds which hee is to pay for his purchase att Ogunquett" w hich bequest was probably a ten pound reduction of the debt
John owed to his father's estate. Capt. John also was embroiled in a civil suit over his intere st in the lands of the Gorges family in the Moody section of Wells. As litigation (and family squabbles) continued for many years there is much material available on this branch of the family.
